Description of project and customer issues

A mining group that is one of the world's leading players in metals and minerals, specialising in ore extraction and processing, wanted to strengthen road risk management at this major site in Guinea, which faces challenges such as poor road infrastructure and an increased risk of accidents.

The objective of this mission was to structure and deploy a training programme for its internal trainers and drivers, covering the following topics:

  • Defensive driving in a 4×4 vehicle
  • Driving commercial vehicles and heavy goods vehicles
  • Fatigue management strategies

Activities / Tasks and Solutions developed by Aegide International

AEGIDE INTERNATIONAL has established two complementary programmes:

For trainers:

  1. Defensive driving techniques for lorries, buses and 4x4s
  2. Practical exercises and pre-inspections (principles of guided driving)
  3. Initial learning or reinforcement of teaching techniques
  4. Accident management, travel policy, internal procedures

For drivers:

  1. Driving techniques theory/practice
  2. Basic mechanical skills
  3. Practical manoeuvring exercises
  4. Training and assessment to the pit permit

Results

Thanks to this approach, more than 35 trainers have been trained on light vehicles, heavy goods vehicles and buses, and hundreds of drivers have been trained in 4x4 and pit permits. This approach was implemented over a period of 24 months and mobilised five resources from AEGIDE INTERNATIONAL.
